I.
I’m falling
not from a height
but from where I stand.
The earth crumbles
sending me farther down the hole.
*thump*
I hit the ground, shaken
shattered, broken.
My pieces in places
Disoriented
II.
All I knew, I thought I knew
Pieces hanging askew
I thought I knew you
best of best friends
I thought we were
nothing could make us closer
I shudder, thinking
you were not who I thought you were
Suddenly,
a stranger
III.
Lost touch
Lost sight
Lost prayer
Lost mass
Lost faith,
almost.
Lost you
Lost me
lost You.
IV.
fumbling for a light
to see where I have gone
so deep, so dark, so cold, so far
and then, a voice
“He’s not gone. He is still here.”
Where?
I can’t feel Him here.
“Were you looking?”
No.
He is not the same.
V.
“But he is.
The same.
Don’t you see?”
No.
I don’t see.
I can’t see.
All there is,
is darkness
and space
between us
VI.
“Reach out. He
is there, as He always is.”
Yes.
I see, now.
My fingers reach out,
reach up.
Closing my hand,
there is nothing in it.
But I see Him yet,
I cannot grasp Him.
VII.
“You can’t.”
But He loves me,
does He not?
I am here
I want to come back
I want to love Him,
like before
I can’t.
Things have changed
A new way of seeing.
VIII.
How can I love you
when you are far away?
“Love them.”
Who?
“Them.” Them?
They are no one
And everyone.
But how?
“Any way you know how.”
Them.
